Smooth and fruity wines made with Malbec grapes

Malbec reds are so smooth and fruity that they don't need much aging. These are velvety wines that people love for their strong black fruit flavours and delicate nuances of chocolate. In colder climates, they have hints of cherries and raspberries while in hot climates they develop a characteristic aroma of very ripe plums and blackberry jam.

Malbec, also known as Auxerrois or Côt, is a red variety native to Cahors, France, which was brought by emigrants to Argentina where it adapted so well that it is now the most widely planted variety in the country and the one that gives Argentine wines their identity.

The Malbec grape bunches are medium sized, with round berries and they love the sun! This means the berries grow a thicker skin with high colour pigments that result in wines with a characteristic beautiful purple colour.

Malbec wines don’t have as long a finish as Cabernet Sauvignon wines, a grape they pair very well with; however, these are the perfect wines to pair with lean meats and intense cheeses like blue cheese.
