They are characterised by the influence of the Mediterranean climate, with little rain, but they are distinguished by the great variety of soils on the land they are cultivated on. The wines from Castilla y León include both the local wines and those that are included within the denominations of origin, with the following being the best known of these: D.O. Bierzo, D.O. Tierras de León, D.O. Toro, D.O. Cigales, D.O. Ribera del Duero, among others.
