About Telmo Rodriguez Basa Blanco
When we think of Spanish wine, one name resonates powerfully: Telmo Rodríguez. A true Midas of the Spanish terroir, Telmo has the remarkable ability to transform every vineyard he touches into a genuine vinous treasure. His passion for the land and his revolutionary vision have led him to create some of the country's most prestigious wineries, redefining the meaning of "terroir" in Spain. So when Telmo decided that a Spanish white wine should claim its rightful place on the global stage, he didn't hesitate for a moment. The result of this bold vision was Telmo Rodriguez Basa Blanco: a wine that, although it started with a more commercial style using the sauvignon blanc variety, soon took a radical turn towards something far more authentic and exhilarating.
Rather than settling, Telmo and his team committed to the local scene, taking the next significant step towards the verdejo, a native grape of Rueda that, with its unique character, could offer something truly special. They abandoned familiar formulas and crafted a more sober, original Rueda, based on indigenous varieties, to bring to life an authentic wine, far removed from what everyone expected.
Telmo Rodriguez Basa Blanco is a blend of verdejo and viura, cultivated on limestone and gravelly soils. The winery adheres to traditional agriculture, and the harvest is partly manual and partly mechanical in different areas of the denominación de origen Rueda. In the winery, the wine ferments in stainless steel tanks before being bottled and marketed.
In a world full of wines trying to fit into molds, Telmo Rodríguez Basa Blanca stands out as a pioneer, showcasing the true expression of the verdejo. This direct, fresh, and characterful wine is a clear testament that, sometimes, the authentic is what shines the brightest.
