About Vinas Mora Kaamen II

Before tourists descended upon its beaches and cruise ships filled its harbours, the Costa de Dalmacia in Croatia had a different story to tell. Here, where hotels and restaurants now stand, life was sustained by fishing nets and vineyards twisted over stone. In the decades preceding the tourist boom, the slopes were draped with vines and houses were nestled among the rocks. Then came abandonment. Many migrated to the coast, others to the cities. Yet, the inland villages—resilient, silent, steadfast—remained. From them emerges Vinas Mora Kaamen II.

This wine is part of the Vinas Mora project, spearheaded by Kreso Petrekovic, an enthusiast of Croatian terroir who chose to champion local vintners and their nearly forgotten traditions. Kreso saw in these ancient vineyards an opportunity to reclaim history and rejuvenate the winemaking culture of Primošten.

Vinas Mora Kaamen II not only bears a name meaning "stone" in Croatian, but it embodies it. Crafted from babić bush vines, sourced from unique plots situated between 250 and 300 metres altitude, where rock dominates and machinery has no place. Everything is done by hand, as it always has been. The yields are exceptionally low, but what is obtained is pure concentration, character, and authenticity.

The fermentation is spontaneous, with only a few days of skin contact, preserving the fruit without seeking excessive power. More than half of the wine rests in fibreglass tanks, while the remainder ages in neutral oak barrels. It is bottled unclarified and unfiltered, with very little sulphur added.

Intense, sincere, with a mineral structure that serves as a reminder that here, before hotels, there were vineyards, Vinas Mora Kaamen II is a testament to Kreso Petrekovic's passion for preserving the authenticity of the place. A true delight!

Vinas Mora Kaamen II 2021 is a veritable explosion of fruit. Upon uncorking, its aroma of fresh blackberries and juicy plums envelops you. On the palate, it is sheer vibrancy: notes of black cherry and raspberry intermingle with a hint of spice, imparting a distinctive and exhilarating character. Its light body makes it ideal for those who appreciate more approachable wines without sacrificing complexity. Particularly commendable is its remarkable balance between fruit and freshness, showcasing the best of this vintage, characterised by ripe, flavourful grapes.
