About Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Ábalos
Acclaimed Spanish oenologist and viticulturist, Telmo Rodríguez established his own winery in 1994 with the ambition of crafting wines that truly represent the indigenous varietals and the unique terroirs of Spain. His zeal for viticulture has inspired him to initiate various projects across different regions of the country, dedicated to the rescue and rejuvenation of neglected vineyards. Following this enriching journey, Telmo returns to Remelluri, the family winery, with the aim of rediscovering and enhancing the most authentic essence of Rioja. His homecoming signifies a renewed commitment to excellence and tradition, aspiring to share with the world the genuine expression of this esteemed Spanish wine region. It is with this intention that Lindes de Remelluri was conceived, a project designed to honor the artisanal work of viticulturists from the villages and hamlets encircling the Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri. Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Ábalos, as Telmo Rodríguez himself describes it, is the “the icing on the cake” of this distinctive collection.
Sourced from 3 hectares of vineyard nestled in the mountainous landscape of one of Rioja's most picturesque and unique villages, Ábalos, Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Ábalos is a blend composed of native varieties Tempranillo, Garnacha, and Graciano. Vines aged between 40 and 90 years are planted on clay-limestone marl soils at an altitude of 494-528 meters and are cultivated using biodynamic practices. When the grapes reach their optimal maturity, the harvest is carried out by hand in small boxes and promptly transported to the winery. There, the meticulously selected, destemmed, and crushed grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts. Subsequently, the wine is aged for 12 months in barrels of various sizes.
As the last village marked by the depth of the Sonsierra, Lindes de Remelluri Viñedos de Ábalos exhibits the finest viticulture of this Riojan territory, both in cultivation methods and in wine production. A quintessential village wine revived by the new generation.
Discover more about the Lindes de Remelluri project:
Lindes de Remelluri is the result of the artisanal work of viticulturists from small towns and hamlets surrounding the Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri, who defend the best viticulture from the 18th century. A social project that values the work of lifelong viticulturists and recovers old, mountainous vineyards perched on the Sierra. A collection of 6 wines, one for each town, whose differences in soils and orientations offer us unique village wines.
