About El Coto Crianza
When we encounter a coto, we know we are in the presence of something remarkable.
A "coto" is not merely a demarcated area; it is an exclusive space, meticulously maintained and designed to preserve its finest attributes. This same philosophy is at the core of El Coto de Rioja, a winery that, since 1970, has invited us to savour the best of the winemaking tradition of the Denominación de Origen Calificada Rioja.
Located in Oyón, in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa, El Coto de Rioja exemplifies the perfect blend of the heritage of a privileged land with innovation. With over 730 hectares of its own vineyards spread across eight estates throughout all the subzones of the D.O.Ca., it is not only the largest winegrower in the region but also one of the most beloved and recognised brands in Spain and beyond.
Its flagship wine, El Coto Crianza, is a genuine statement of intent. This single-varietal tempranillo not only embodies the character of the land but also the meticulous care with which it is crafted: controlled fermentation using the most advanced technology, aged for 12 months in American oak barrels, followed by a minimum of 6 months resting in the bottle before being released to the market. The result? A balanced, elegant wine brimming with nuances, perfect for any occasion.
But the most impressive aspect of El Coto de Rioja is not just its commitment to quality, but its accessibility to all. A wine that reaches over 70 countries, proving that enjoying a fine Rioja need not be an unattainable luxury.
