About Carl Ehrhard Riesling Spätlese Berg Rottland

Founded by the Ehrhard family in 1815, Weingut Carl Ehrhard is located in Rüdesheim, one of the most important municipalities in the Rheingau and undoubtedly a stronghold of the Riesling grape. Here Carl, together with his wife Petra, the fifth generation of the Ehrhard family, have been running the winery since 1998 and striving to produce wines that express the unique character of each piece of land. In a short time, they have become one of the leaders of the new generation of German winemakers who focus on dry wines from classic grape varieties.

With 9 hectares spread over 6 first-class vineyards located on the steep banks of the Rhine, Ehrhard works with traditional methods and without fertilisers or herbicides. Their Carl Ehrhard Riesling Spätlese Berg Rottland wine is made from Riesling grapes only, which are harvested and selected by hand once they are fully ripe. With Carl constantly striving to maintain the purity of the fruit in each wine through minimal intervention, fermentation takes place naturally without the addition of yeast in a mixture of large neutral oak containers and stainless steel tanks over 18 weeks at a constant temperature of 18°C (64°F).

As a result, Carl Ehrhard Riesling Spätlese Berg Rottland is a precise and powerful white wine that in its youth is lively and fresh and in its maturity develops great depth and character. A Riesling that can easily last fifty years.

Carl Ehrhard Riesling Spätlese Berg Rottland 2020 is an aromatic white wine with floral fragrances and an intense aroma of tropical fruits. On the palate it is fresh, precise and powerful. A wine with a subtle sweetness, complemented by high acids and very attractive mineral touches.
