About Artadi La Hoya

There is strength in unity and Artadi, one of the great wineries in Spain, came about through the union of a group of winegrowers from La Rioja Alavesa in 1985. Run by Juan Carlos López de Lacalle, a true visionary who knew exactly how to establish a new concept of wines connected to the terroir, they produce transparent single-variety wines that give us a window into the landscape of the wine-growing areas they come from. These wines have managed to achieve the coveted 100 Parker points and gave them the courage to leave the DOCa Rioja and focus on their commitment to diversity, like in other wine regions like Bordeaux or Burgundy.

One of the great gems from Artadi is Artadi La Hoya, a single-plot wine from a 3.6 hectare Tempranillo vineyard planted in Elvillar de Álava (Basque Country) on deep clay-loam soils with organic matter on the surface. The grapes are grown organically without the use of chemical products that could alter the natural balance of the terroir and the grapes are harvested by hand with the clusters and berries selected in the vineyard itself.

In the winery the Artadi La Hoya grapes are destemmed and crushed to begin vinification in open tanks with cold maceration for 24-48 hours. Fermentation lasts 10-12 days with two cap plunges per day and a light pumping over. Malolactic fermentation takes place in 225-litre French oak barrels where it remains for 12 months before bottling.

Made from unique vineyards cultivated by experts, Artadi La Hoya is sold out before it even reaches the shelves. A great opportunity to enjoy a broad, deep and rounded Rioja that is just perfectly connected to its terroir and nothing else.
