About Artadi Valdeginés
Artadi Valdeginés is a red wine made by the Bodegas y Viñedos Artadi winery in Laguardia, Rioja Alavesa.
Bodegas y Viñedos Artadi’s origins date back to 1985, when a group of winegrowers decided to get together and start making their wines as a cooperative.
In 1992 the Lacalle took over the running of this cooperative with the aim of producing unique wines, wines that reflect their origin. They put all their effort into cultivating the vineyard, thereby giving greater prominence to smallholding wines. This led to them leaving the D.O.Ca. Rioja in 2015, without abandoning wine production in this region.
Bodegas y Viñedos Artadi currently has over 80 hectares of vineyards in La Rioja, with different characteristics, especially in terms of the composition of the soils. It is also part of the winemaking group that also consists of the wineries Bodegas y Viñedos Artazu (Navarre) and Bodegas y Viñedos El Sequé (Alicante).
Artadi Valdeginés is a red wine made with Tempranillo grapes from a 7 hectare vineyard located in the municipality of Laguardia, about 600 meters above sea level, on clay-calcareous soils.
The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in 15 kg boxes, with the selection being performed in the vineyard itself. Once in the cellar they undergo a cold maceration for 24-48 hours before ferment with native yeasts in open wooden vats for 10-12 days with daily treading and a small pump-over. The malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels where the wine remains for 12 months.

Artadi Valdeginés 2022 is a fresh and carefree red wine, juicy, clean, and highly aromatic. Its nose is intense, with predominant aromas of red fruit. On the palate, it is structured and pronounced, very elegant and slender, with a subtle touch of tannins.

2017 | In terms of climate, the 2017 vintage began with a winter of mild temperatures and moderate rainfall, followed by a spring with average rain and higher temperatures than usual, which favoured early sprouting. Like many wineries in the area, this vintage was marked by the fateful night of April 28, when temperatures dropped drastically causing frosts of catastrophic consequences. This frost, fortunately, had different effects on the crop, depending on the orography and the phenolic state of the vineyard. This way, in Artadi vineyard, the impact caused a 20-25% reduction of the harvest. In months following the frost, the weather conditions were frankly beneficial for the recovery of the vineyard, with temperatures and rains higher to the average in the region. Thus allowed harvesting with almost imperceptible phenolic differences. As Carlos López de Lacalle tells us, a great vintage that has managed to make adversity an occasion of virtue.
2016 | Artadi Valdeginés 2016 is a deep, fresh and balanced red wine. This vintage is frank on the nose, with aromas of ripe red fruit, balsamic notes and a very elegant toasted base note. On the palate it is open, with a certain volume and a fresh and lingering finish.
2011 | Well-defined tannins on the palate. Strong fruity hints. Picota red with a purplish rim and a high robe. Red fruit on the nose. A clear, penetrating and direct aroma. |
|
2010 | Full bodied on the palate. Very pleasant and balanced. Easy to drink, with good acidity, dark and red fruit nuances. Liquorice, toasted and bitter notes. Picota red with a purplish rim and a high robe. Complex, clean and elegant on the nose. Broad tannins and fruit nuances. |
