About Alonso del Yerro

Alonso del Yerro is a red wine produced by Viñedos Alonso del Yerro in Roa (Burgos) within D.O. Ribera del Duero.

In 2002, husband and wife, Javier Alonso and María del Yerro moved to the Santa Marta farm (Roa, Burgos), in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, with a clear enthusiasm for making quality wines. Assisted by the Bordeaux oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt, they will soon make a name for themselves in the winemaking scene of their area.
Currently Alonso del Yerro vineyards has 22 hectares of vineyards, a set of plots planted in the late 1980s, at an altitude of 800-840 metres, all cultivated by the staff of the winery with the utmost respect for the vineyard, the soil and the environment.
This way of working and a rigorous selection of the best grapes allows Viñedos Alonso del Yerro to produce its wines with outstanding quality.

Alonso del Yerro is a single-variety wine of Tinta del País (Tempranillo) from vineyards planted on a wide variety of highly calcareous soils at an altitude of over 800 metres. We can find soils of red or sandy clay with gravel.
As for the production, long macerations of between 25 and 29 days take place. Finally, the wine goes through a 12-month ageing in French oak barrels.
