About Vietti Castiglione Barolo
Only the best of the best. This is our simple introduction to Vietti Castiglione Barolo, one of the best known and most acclaimed red wines of northern Italy. The winemakers behind it are the well-known Vietti winery, a benchmark in Piedmont, northern Italy, which works to offer the most classic version of Barolo, the area’s typical red wine, which at this winery is made with the best grapes from ten vineyards classified as MGA (Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva). This classification, which refers to a specific area, is the equivalent of the French crus, thus guaranteeing that the reds made in these vineyards (with calcareous-clay soils) are of the highest quality.
In the winery, following a manual harvest, all of these MGAs are worked separately from start to finish. Although all of them are processed and gently pressed, the vinification methods are different depending on the characteristics of each terroir (in most cases fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, in contact with the skins). After this, and the corresponding post-fermentation maceration and malolactic fermentation, Vietti Castiglione Barolo is aged for 30 months in large barrels before blending and bottling. Throughout this process, the batch that is not destined for Vietti Castiglione Barolo is used for Vietti Perbacco Langhe Nebbiolo, another great red. A bestseller not to be missed!
