About Vagüera

Vagüera is a white wine without denomination of origin produced by Alvar de Dios Hernández in El Pego (Toro).

After working in several different wineries, Alvar de Dios decided to start his own personal project, demonstrating the value of the old vines owned by his grandfather in the town of El Pego. His clear effort towards an organic-biodynamic cultivation and a classic production, result in fine and tasty wines. Alvar de Dios has managed to position himself amongst the most important winemakers of the area.

Vagüera is a white wine made mainly with Albillo and another 15 varieties, in co-plantation of a small vineyard located in the municipality of El Maderal (Zamora), outside D.O. Toro. This vineyard, of around 500 vines, was planted over 90 years ago on red clay soils at an altitude of 900 metres.

Once the grapes are manually harvested, an without separating the varieties, they go through a short cold maceration for 12-18 hours. The grapes are gently pressed and the resulting must goes through a cold, static settling process. The fermentation is carried out in used 300-litre barrels with native yeasts. Here, the wine rests for a year before it is bottled.

Vagüera 2019 is a white wine defined by its bouquet of white fruit aromas, citrus undertones, and hints of wild herbs. On the palate, it is expansive, vibrant, and profound. This wine boasts pronounced acidity, a silky texture, and a rejuvenating finish.
2017 Vagüera 2017 is a defined white wine with initial aromas of white flowers, citrus and herbs on the nose, finishing with notes of nuts. On the palate it is broad, powerful and deep with a fresh acidity and a very mineral background.
2016 Vagüera 2016 is a profiled white wine, deep and fresh. An excellent vintage for this wine that delights us with its changing nose. It starts off as a floral wine, with citrus notes and wild herbs, giving way to notes of dried fruit and nuts. In the mouth, it has a lot of character, it is ample, juicy and with a long and fresh finish.
