About Turonia
Turonia is a single-variety Albariño white wine produced by the Quinta de Couselo Galician winery in the D.O. Rías Baixas.
Quinta de Couselo is located in the prestigious O Rosa Valley. It is a small winery, with a long family history, and it has always been known for its love for wine and respect for the environment. In 2013, it became part of the Grandes Pagos Gallegos de Viticultura Tradicional, a winemaking group who seek to run unique projects in areas where Galician native varieties like Albariño, Caiño Blanco, Marqués and Treixadura can best express themselves.
Turonia comes from 8 hectares of the winery’s own vineyards as well as other rented estates that the winery manages. The strains are over 30 years old, planted in granite soils and slate shales, bathing in an Atlantic climate. They use sustainable viticulture and traditional cultivation practices. No herbicides are used and the vines are grown using trellises and the Galician arbour system. The grapes are harvested manually and placed in 15 kg boxes.
The clusters are immediately transported to the winery where they are placed in a cold room at a controlled temperature of 5º. Then they pass over a vibrating selection table and are carefully destemmed. The Turonia grape macerates whole before going through the pneumatic press for 2 hours, separating the musts and undergoing static racking. It then ferments at a controlled temperature and ages on its lees for 4 months in stainless steel tanks.
Turonia is a single-variety white wine made unique by its density, salinity and acidity.
