About Travaglini Gattinara Vendemmia

According to legend, the curved and twisted lines of its bottle were designed to make it easier for a left-handed pope to serve the wine. Another much more practical version, attests that its shape was devised to facilitate decanting. Be that as it may, for one reason or another, it’s impossible not to recognise one of its bottles in a cellar or pantry. Travaglini Gattinara Vendemmia is already truly legendary. A classic Italian wine.

The father of this red wine produced in the DOCG Gattinara was Clemente Travaglini, who in 1920 began producing wine from his own grapes of the Nebbiolo variety grown in Gattinara, Piedmont. The town, which lies at the foot of Monte Rosa and is sheltered by the Alps, is protected from cold currents, allowing the grapes (which grow in volcanic soil) to ripen in the shelter of the gentle breezes and mist. Here the old vines (between 15 and 45 years old) which are located at 300-450 metres above sea level, give low yields, but of great quality.

Now, almost a century later and with the winery in the hands of Cinzi Travaglini (Clemente's great-granddaughter and the fourth generation of the family), the Travaglini winerycontinues to maintain the same winemaking process that has guaranteed the quality of its wines. In the case of Travaglini Gattinara Vendemmia, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Fifteen days later, Travaglini Gattinara Vendemmia is racked into Slavonian oak barrels for 30 months. Finally, it’s finished off with a short ageing in the bottle for a few months.

2019

Travaglini Gattinara Vendemmia 2019 unfurls a symphony of aromas in which delicate spices and mineral undertones intertwine. The bouquet reveals distinct scents of violets and licorice, complemented by the ripeness of red fruits such as cherries and plums. On the palate, its structure is formidable, delivering a sumptuous and enveloping texture that mirrors its mature character. This red wine is an exemplar of harmony and intricacy, with a lingering finish that beckons one to indulge further.

2017

Travaglini Gattinara Vendemmia 2017 is a single varietal Nebbiolo. The nose is dominated by floral notes (violet, rose petal), balsamic touches and spices. The mineral nuances are essential, characteristic of the volcanic soil, and will remain on the palate (very profiled with noble tannins).
