About Tiberio Pecorino
The white truffle of Alba is a treasure that emerged by chance in the forests of Piedmont. For centuries, peasants mistook it for a mere peculiar tuber, akin to an irregular potato, until it was recognised as an exceptional subterranean fungus. However, it wasn't until Giacomo Morra, a hotelier and entrepreneur from Alba, realised its gastronomic and economic potential that the white truffle became a symbol of global luxury, gracing the most exclusive tables around the world.
Stories like this illustrate that great discoveries sometimes arise purely by chance. And in the world of wine, history repeats itself. In the late 1990s, Riccardo Tiberio discovered an old vineyard of trebbiano Abruzzese, a nearly extinct variety often mistaken for trebbiano toscano, in the hills surrounding Cugnoli in Abruzzo. Recognising the significance of his find, he decided to pursue his dream, relocating his family from the coast of Pescara and leaving behind his career as an export manager at a prominent regional winery. There, between the slopes of Gran Sasso d’Italia and Monte Amaro, he began shaping a project that today is redefining the wines of Abruzzo.
Since 2008, the family estate has been led by his children: Antonio, who oversees viticulture, and Cristiana, responsible for winemaking, trained by internationally renowned producers such as Jacques Selosse, Nicolas Joly, and Egon Müller.
Among the treasures the family discovered are vines of pecorino, a variety that was nearly lost due to its low yields and which, today, thanks to their efforts, is celebrated for its distinctive character and high quality.
Thus, their Tiberio Pecorino originates from these hills of Colline Pescaresi, cultivated in calcareous soils with a gravel and marl subsoil. Only first-press juice is used, which ferments in stainless steel without malolactic fermentation and remains on lees until bottling, without filtration or fining, to preserve its varietal purity and reflect the unique character of the region.
In this way, just as the white truffle of Alba became a symbol of excellence, Tiberio Pecorino asserts itself as a unique wine full of vitality, elegance, and minerality.
