About Tenute Capaldo Goleto Greco di Tufo

Some places have their own magic. Ancient constructions wrapped in an aura of light and mystery. And it is this charm that inspired Antonio Capaldo, CEO of Feudi di San Gregorio and one of southern Italy’s wine greats, to pay homage to the Goleto abbey by making a wine named after it. This is a 12th century white stone monastery that, although partially destroyed by the earthquake of 1980, remains a symbol of Irpinia, in Campania (Italy). A place as emblematic and fascinating as the native Greco di Tufo grape variety that is born and grown at its feet.

Responsible for the visualisation of southern Italian wine and the rediscovery of Mediterranean flavours, Capalso sees these vineyards as an opportunity to achieve the highest quality standards with the region’s star variety. This is how, after years of intense experimentation, he presents Tenute Capaldo Goleto Greco di Tufo, a white wine made with the Greco variety, registered in the DOCG Greco di Tufo and made using 70-year-old vines planted on calcareous soils. The grapes are traditionally grown and harvested by hand when they reach optimum ripeness. In the winery, fermentation takes place in steel tanks, while aging takes place 80% in barrels and 20% in amphorae for 12 months. Finally, the wine rests in the bottle for 12 months before being sold.

Through its iconic name, Tenute Capaldo Goleto Greco di Tufo is a wine that reflects the centuries-old heritage of the Irpinia region. A great Italian white wine that appears in prestigious wine guru Robert Parker’s top 100 best discoveries, and demonstrates the superior quality of the Greco variety.
