About Tenuta Delle Terre Nere Etna Bianco

The Italian expression “Terre Nere”, which translates into English as “black earth”, refers to the volcanic soil rich in minerals, especially basaltic material, an outstanding feature of the Mount Etna region in Sicily (Italy), one of the most active volcanoes in Europe. A dark soil rich in minerals, the result of past and present volcanic activity in the area, which is essential for growing grapes and producing the distinctive wines from this denomination. It is in this context that Tenuta delle Terre Nere was born, a winery lying on the northern slopes of Mount Etna that clearly nourishes and makes this unique terroir famous, with red, white and rosé wines praised for their elegance, complexity and great minerality.

Some of their most acclaimed wines are Etna Rosso, which is made mainly from Nerello Mascalese grapes, and Etna Bianco which is made from the white grapes that are found in small quantities in these same vineyards in the municipalities of Castiglione di Sicilia, Randazzo, Biancavilla and Milo. These are grapes of the Carricante, Catarratto, Inzolia, Grecanico and Minnella varieties with an average age of 10 years old and at an altitude of 600 to 900 metres above sea level. The project is committed to sustainable and organic agriculture. They prioritise environmental responsibility and strive to maintain the health of their vineyards and the surrounding ecosystem. Once in the winery, the selected grapes are gently pressed and the resulting must is fermented without contact with the skins in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. It then stays in these same tanks for a few months on its lees before bottling.
