About Serragghia Fanino Catarratto e Pignatello rosso

Serragghia Fanino Catarratto e Pignatello Rosso is a red wine coupage of the Pignatello and Catarratto varieties produced by Azienda Agricola Serragghia, by Gabrio Bini, on the island of Pantelaria, Sicily.

The Serragghia Fanino Catarratto e Pignatello Rosso wine is made from one red variety, the Pignatello, and one white variety, the Catarrh, which produces a rustic and spiced red wine with a light pink colour.

The grapes come from 40-year-old vines planted in terraces on volcanic and sandy soils that are cultivated according to the principles of organic agriculture.

When they reach the winery, the bunches are destemmed and undergo fermentation outdoors with their native yeasts in 220 amphoras buried in highly porous volcanic rock known as tuff and macerated with their skins for about three months. The resulting wine is refined in amphoras for seven months and bottled without filtering, clarifying or adding sulphites, and it stays in the bottle for a period of time before being sold.

The Azienda Agricola Serragghia is located on the island of Pantelaria (Pantelleria, in Italian), a volcanic mass about 100 km south of Sicily, famous for its capers and passito (sweet wine). Serragghia's vineyards lie at a higher altitude than most of the island's plots. All of these factors, together with Gabrio Brini’s artisan methods and minimal intervention, produce remarkable wines with a character that perfectly matches its origin.

2018 Serragghia Fanino Catarratto e Pignatello Rosso 2018 is a smooth rosé red wine with spicy and floral aromas on the nose with hints of ripe red fruit. On the palate it is smooth, fresh and mineral. This is a remarkably delicate and refreshing red wine.
