About Senderos de Ukan

Koldo Eguren, belonging to the fifth generation of the renowned Eguren family of winemakers, leads Ukan. A small-scale winery following the Bordeaux model, focused on translating the landscape of Rioja Alavesa into limited quantities in each bottle. He combines the accumulated wisdom from past generations with a fresh, modern perspective gained throughout his professional career.

Its second wine, Senderos de Ukan, comes from a selection of tempranillo vineyards with an average age of 50 years located in the municipalities of Laguardia, Elciego, Elvillar and Lapuebla. Environmentally-friendly agriculture is practised, with strict yield control. Once the grapes are harvested by hand, they go through a selection table, berry by berry. Each vineyard is vinified separately in order to extract the essence of each site. Carbonic maceration is carried out in 40 and 80 HL concrete tanks, complemented by malolactic fermentation and aging in second- and third-use French oak barrels for 12 months.

Thus, Senderos de Ukan, the younger brother of the family, is born with the same freshness and balance as his older brother Ukan. A wine loaded with fruit and easy-drinking pleasure, to be enjoyed from the first moment.

 

2019

Senderos de Ukan 2019 is a richly concentrated red wine brimming with aromas of ripe red and black fruits, hints of violet, and nuances of oak. On the palate, it is velvety, expansive, and refined. The wine features enveloping tannins, a pronounced acidity, and a prolonged, well-rounded finish.
