Ron Contrabando Añejo 5 años is a rum characterised by its pleasant vanilla aroma accompanied by notes of tropical fruits, fresh coconut and toasted and balsamic nuances that come from its aging. On the palate it is pleasant but intense. A well-balanced, complex and elegant rum.

About Contrabando Añejo 5 Years Old Rum

Legend has it that on his trip to the other side of the pond, a Spanish notary fell in love with the five-year minimum aged rum produced at the Oliver & Oliver distillery. The notary loved the taste and got so much pleasure from it that he refused to go a single day without this drink. Its sweet taste, round body and complexity was something he could not do without when he returned to Spain. And so, bypassing customs laws, Contrabando Añejo 5 Años Rum arrived in Spain for the first time.

Nobody knows how much of this story is true. What is clear is that this story is where the name comes from, and shows that anyone could be willing to risk quite so much for a bottle of this premium, limited edition, numbered rum, aged using the traditional criaderas and soleras system. It has always been said that there are many similarities between the New World and Spain, the result of an inherited culture. And this is true when it comes to Oliver&Oliver’s spirits. The oldest rum, the one in the barrels closest to the ground (popularly known as soleras), is what is taken out and bottled. The youngest is placed in the barrels at the top. And in between, there is a mixture of years, nuances and history where the barrels above fill the space left in the barrels below.

Contrabando Añejo 5 Años rum is the result of completely artisan work, where even the labelling is done by hand. Excellent quality raw material and production. What more could you ask for.
