About Raúl Pérez El Erial de Valdecañada

"Good parcels make good wines." With this premise, the renowned oenologist Raúl Pérez has been spearheading some of the most exciting projects in the wine world in recent times. Bringing his vast knowledge and experience to ventures that aim to highlight the quality and distinctive character of the Bierzo grapes in Castilla y León (Spain), such as those of Álvaro Palacios or the Peique family, Pérez has been instrumental in elevating the profile of this small yet promising denomination. His efforts have been further validated through his own personal projects, focusing on specific parcels and sustainable production.

An example of this work is found in Raúl Pérez El Erial de Valdecañada, a white wine made from the indigenous variety godello and a small percentage of palomino. These old vines grow in a very special vineyard, Valdecañada, composed of schist and slate soils at an altitude of about 700 meters above sea level. The vineyard is managed organically with respectful treatments that preserve the natural state of such a magnificent terroir. The harvest is done manually at the optimal moment of ripeness, and once in the winery, the whole clusters ferment spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in a single neutral barrel. Afterwards, the wine remains in these same containers for 3 months with the development of flor. Finally, it is bottled without clarification or filtration.

With a unique approach to understanding wine, creations like this Raúl Pérez El Erial de Valdecañada are revolutionising the international scene. A white wine with flor, born solely from the vineyards where he finds the grapes he loves most. It stands as a testament to his remarkable talent for discovering and cultivating the finest vineyards in the region.

Raúl Pérez El Erial de Valdecañada 2015 is a white wine with an alluring fluidity and delicacy. On the nose, it presents aromas of fruits such as peach and pear, with a hint of salinity that reflects its origin in schist soils. On the palate, it is subtly full-bodied and has a creamy profile that combines with soft, well-defined fruit flavours. A clever and distinctive wine of which only 1200 bottles were produced.
