About Ponche Caballero Liqueur

Ponche Caballero is much more than a liqueur; it is a legacy that has endured through generations, encapsulating the essence of tradition and the art of living. Its history dates back to 1830, when Don José Cabaleiro do Lago, a visionary from Galicia, decided to move to Chipiona to establish a timber business that would later transform into a venture dedicated to wine aging, brandy production, and, of course, ponche. It was at that moment that the secret recipe was born, giving rise to Ponche Caballero, a liqueur that has since captivated palates both within and beyond Spain.

Ponche traces its origins to ancient Persia, where a beverage called “panj” was made from spirits, sugar, lemon, water, and tea. Over time, the recipe gained popularity and reached the British, who called this drink “punch,” hence its name.

Crafted with a meticulous selection of botanicals sourced from the most exotic corners of the world: such as cinnamon from Sri Lanka, vanilla from Mexico, cloves from Madagascar, and nutmeg from Indonesia, along with the finest Andalusian oranges, Ponche Caballero is the perfect fusion of tradition and quality. The recipe, which has remained unchanged for nearly two centuries, continues to be a closely guarded family secret.

Its characteristic bright amber colour and sweet aroma with notes of orange, vanilla, and spices create a unique experience that culminates in a sweet and intense flavour, unmistakable and full of character. Ponche Caballero is not just a liqueur; it is the soul of family gatherings, the touch of distinction that turns any moment into a celebration.

Since its resurgence in the 1940s and subsequent expansion in the 1950s, Ponche Caballero has established itself as the quintessential Spanish liqueur, an icon that has crossed borders and remains a reference in every corner where it is enjoyed. Allow yourself to be seduced by the unmistakable essence of Ponche Caballero and discover why it is the heart of every toast and the spark of joy on any occasion.
