Pazo de Rubianes Albariño 2023 is an aromatic white wine with a bright straw-yellow colour. On the nose, it offers a complex blend of fruity aromas such as ripe apple and peach, along with notes of aromatic herbs and white flowers. On the palate, it is broad and fresh, with good acidity and a slightly oily texture. Its finish is slightly bitter and long, with a marked character and a distinctive aromatic profile.

About Pazo De Rubianes Albariño

The camellia is a plant of oriental origin, which was brought to Europe by the Jesuits. In fact its name comes from a Jesuit priest, Camellus. This flower needs a humid climate, mild temperatures and fertile and acidic soils. All of these conditions can be found at the Pazo de Rubianes, a manor in Galicia (Spain) with more than 600 years of history. Because of the perfect conditions, a botanical garden was created with more than 4,500 camellias. It is an International Camellia Garden of Excellence, created out of a passion for gardening that has been passed down through the generations from parents to children. But that’s not the end of the story, because since 1999 the Ozores de Urcola family has been combining this work with flowers with recovering vineyards, which had been lost since phylloxera wiped them out. Paloma Rey Fernández-Latorre, the widow of Don Gonzalo Ozores de Urcola, has managed to make this work a reality, turning the estate into a point of reference in Galicia in the botanical, architectural and viticultural realms.

Their Pazo de Rubianes wine, made in the heart of Salnés (D.O. Rías Baixas), comes from magnificent vineyards growing the native Albariño variety with a privileged altitude and orientation. 25 hectares of post-phylloxera vines planted on granitic soils and surrounded by more than 800 botanical species, including camellias. Once the grapes have reached optimum ripeness, they are harvested by hand in 15 kg boxes and immediately taken to the winery for cold maceration. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature and then the wine is aged on lees for 3 months with periodic ‘bâtonnage’.

The result is Pazo de Rubianes, a wine steeped in history and born in a unique environment. An idyllic landscape that makes this “wine of the Camellias” unique among the wines of Rías Baixas.
