About Pazo de Barrantes

Pazo Barrantes is stronger than ever. And so is the Albariño. After two years away, this Galician white wine from the D.O. Rías Baixas is back with a bang, it is energetic and contains the full power of this variety.

The new approach of Pazo Barrantes is based on a much more careful aging, along with some acacia barrels, later bottling and a much longer aging in the bottle. However, this didn’t just happen overnight. This change comes after ten years of research and meticulous work in the 12 hectares of vineyards in the Salnés valley, in the heart of the D.O. Rías Baixas. These rows and vines, planted on granitic soil with sand on the surface, are 30 years old on average and are divided into eight different vineyards, because of their different microclimates. Year after year, the grapes grow in quality.

Pazo Barrantes is selected, destemmed and gently pressed. After this, the must is decanted by flotation, guaranteeing greater aromatic purity. After that, Pazo Barrantes ferments in stainless steel tanks at 10ºC for 60 days. However, despite all this, the Pazo Barrantes journey has only just begun, as it will remain here for 2 months on its lees. This will give the wine more body and smoothness. After this, the wine is racked (the lees are removed), and once clean it is divided into two batches: 15% of Pazo Barrantes is transferred to acacia wood barrels, and the rest is placed in stainless steel tanks. It spends 7 months in both places. After this half year, Pazo Barrantes is blended again, bottled and spends 16 months aging in the bottle.

The Pazo de Barrantes winery has been producing high quality wines since 1511. Now they present Pazo Barrantes with overwhelming personality. Pleased to meet you. I’m confident this will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
