Oscar Tobía Blanco Reserva 2018 is an elegant white wine with a gentle character. It exhibits a pale golden yellow hue with bright green reflections. On the nose, it reveals aromas of citrus fruits such as lemon and mandarin, accompanied by notes of pineapple and quince. Subtle hints of vanilla, cinnamon, and smokiness are also discernible, with a delicately mentholated undertone. Upon tasting, it offers a slightly sweet entry, with a creamy texture and well-balanced acidity. The finish is pleasantly bitter, with a rounded and delightful sensation.

About Oscar Tobía Blanco Reserva

Although Rioja red wines often steal the show in the wine world, its white wines have unique characteristics. The diversity of white varieties including Viura, Malvasía, Garnacha Blanca and Tempranillo Blanco allows producers to create white wines with varied profiles, from dry and refreshing to sweeter and fruitier. But above all, Rioja white wines are usually enjoyed for their balance and elegance. With a long winemaking tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation where there is absolute control of the barrel aging technique, these wines can develop additional flavours and complexity over time, offering unique experiences to wine lovers.

A well-known Spanish winemaker who has played a leading role in the wine industry in the La Rioja region, Oscar Tobía creates wines that combine the best of tradition and innovation. So of course he surprises us with a long-aged white wine full of nuances. Oscar Tobía Blanco Reserva is made with the native Viura, Malvasía, Maturana and Tempranillo Blanco varieties. These grapes come from vines of different vineyards in the Rioja Alta and Baja with different types of soil and a limited yield of 4,000 kilograms per hectare. The grapes are harvested using sustainable techniques and the harvest is manual and staggered. Once in the winery, the grapes are cold macerated for 2 days and then the must is fermented at a controlled temperature in new barrels, 45% French oak and the rest American oak. Finally, the wine is aged in the same barrels with fine lees for 20 months and a further 16 months in the bottle before release.

The result is Oscar Tobía Blanco Reserva, a tasty limited production, the fruit of four white Rioja varieties and long barrel aging. All the attributes that characterise the DOCa Rioja style with the creative vision of a new generation winemaker.

On the palate, the sweet and enveloping entry provides a round and fresh experience, with a quince-scented aftertaste. The finish is distinguished by its persistence and length in the aftertaste, leaving a memorable impression.
