About Orto Vins "Orto"

Orto is a red wine from Montsant prepared by Orto Vins SCP, a winery founded on July 18, 2008 by 4 winegrowers in El Masroig, with a long history in the wine world due to their grandparents and great grandparents.

One of them is Joan Asens, former winemaker at the Alvaro Palacios winery in Priorat and creator of L'Ermita. The climate of this area is Mediterranean but with continental influences. The mountains act as a natural barrier against the influence of the winds from the sea. This climate is characterized by a great contrast between day and night. Summers are hot and dry and cold winters.

This wine is a blend of Picapoll Tinto, Garnacha Tinta, Samsó and Ull de Llebre from the winery's own vineyards aged between 18 and 90 years, planted on calcareous soils, between 52 and 250 metres above sea level. Orto Vins make wines following the traditional methods of biodynamic agriculture, with absolute respect for the vineyard and the earth.

Finally, Orto spends three months ageing in French oak barrels.
