About Ornellaia Le Volte
Ornellaia is synonymous with excellence. A name that has become a symbol of exceptional quality and superiority since Marquis Lodovico Antinori founded the winery with the intention of producing world-class wines in a region, Bolgheri (Tuscany), which was previously not well known for its quality wines. This is how the Super Tuscan movement is targeted, wines made with French grape varieties and modern winemaking techniques, which are appreciated for their quality and their ability to challenge Italian winemaking traditions. A successful winemaking vision that has taken advantage of a unique terroir and an extraordinary microclimate to create authentic and highly coveted works of art.
One of these gems is Ornellaia Le Volte, a red wine made from the Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese varieties whose vines are rooted in soils of clay, sand, silicate rock, marl and volcanic rock and are cultivated following a philosophy that prioritises quality from the very beginning. The grapes are harvested by hand in 15 kg boxes when ripening is complete and immediately taken to the winery. Fermentation of each vineyard happens separately in small stainless steel tanks at a constant temperature. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is racked partly in barrels previously used for their first wine, Ornellaia, and partly in concrete tanks for 10 months.
With a perfect balance between tannic structure and fresh fruit expression, Le Volte dell'Ornellaia is a wine with Old World distinction and complexity but with the IGT Tuscany’s soil and microclimate. A reflection of Ornellaia’s expertise.
