About Tiro al Blanco Castes Blancas

Matías Michelini is not one to shy away from a challenge. When he identifies a terroir with potential, he is willing to traverse oceans to craft his own interpretation of that enchanting site. Thus, after establishing himself as one of the preeminent vintners in his home country with four wineries nestled in the Uco Valley (Argentina), he rolled up his sleeves and embarked on a new venture, Bodega O Morto Wines, in the Galician region of Ribeiro. With 4 hectares of small plots located in the town of Ribadavia, boasting a diverse array of old vines of indigenous red and white varieties, Matias, together with his partners Alejandro González and Sergio Cortés, crafts limited production wines of sincere character that perfectly capture the essence of the terroir.

A prime example of this unique approach is the Tiro al Blanco Castes Blancas, a blend of local varieties godello, treixadura, loureira, and albariño. These old vines are planted in granitic soils, influenced by Atlantic winds and abundant sunlight. The vineyard is managed organically, eschewing chemical products and keeping yields low. After the grapes are hand-harvested, they are partially destemmed and undergo fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel vats. The wine is then left to mature on its lees in the same vessels before being bottled unclarified and with minimal sulfur addition.

Born from complex soils, an Atlantic climate, and a philosophy of minimal intervention, Tiro al Blanco Castes Blancas is a white wine inspired by the quintessential village wines of the DO Ribeiro. It is a fresh, flowing, and intricate white wine that, as always, sees Matías hitting the mark.
