About Narupa Piorno
Behind Narupa stand four partners: Rosa and Paco Pedrosa, Ruth Campelo, and Nacho Jiménez. In fact, the name is an acronym derived from the four partners: Na (from Nana, a nickname for Rosa and Nacho), ru (from Ruth), and pa (from Paco). It all began when Rosa left her research position at the Polytechnic University of Madrid to dedicate herself to tending a small family vineyard of nearly half a hectare located in Barrantes, in the "Val do Salnes" subzone (Galicia). With the intention of creating albariños that express the varietal character and showcase the identity of the region, the four members of the project manage this and other vineyards at varying distances from the sea. As a result, they produce unadulterated wines that reflect the most authentic Galicia.
Narupa Piorno is one of them. It comes from an inland vineyard located 16 kilometres from the sea, within the Rías Baixas region. These are 50-year-old vines planted in sandy-loam and loamy-clay soils of granitic origin, cultivated through rational viticulture, relying on ecological treatments and without the use of chemical products. In the winery, the grapes are foot-trodden and cold-macerated for 30 hours. Then they are pressed and racked, and the must obtained ferments with indigenous yeasts in barrels where it remains for approximately 10 months.
Bearing the name of a shrub species that forms extensive thickets, Narupa Piorno is an inland albariño that clearly exhibits the characteristics of the variety. A wine with such good bottle evolution that it dispels the myth that these white wines are meant to be consumed young, representing one of the most intriguing new Atlantic projects to have emerged in recent times in Rías Baixas.
2021 | Narupa Piorno 2021 is a white wine with a vibrant and fresh personality. On the nose, it reveals aromas of green apple and citrus, such as lemon and grapefruit, which invite a refreshing tasting experience. On the palate, it offers balanced acidity and a clean, persistent finish. Perfect for those seeking an accessible and high-quality white wine. |

2018 |
Narupa Piorno 2018 is a white wine with intense aromas of white and tropical fruit, floral notes and hints of fine herbs. On the palate it is earnest, fresh and complex. A rounded wine with very balanced acidity and a long and pleasant finish. |
