Muga 2022 is a red wine that embodies the most refined essence of Rioja: it blends tradition with a natural elegance evident in every detail. About Muga

His name already resonates as one of the eminent sommeliers of Spain. Almost nothing escapes the discerning nose and palate of Alberto Ruffoni, which is why it is wise to heed this young man —half Italian and half Galician— when he asserts that Muga is one of the finest wines with which one can never go wrong.
 
With this offering, where tempranillo, garnacha, mazuelo, and graciano are blended, this legendary winery manages to reveal one of the lesser-known facets of DOCaRioja, specifically from Haro (in Rioja Alta), where the highest concentration of century-old wineries is found. Here, the subject of wine is more akin to a religion than a business.
 
Muga is cultivated in clay-limestone soils and thrives under an Atlantic climate with mild temperatures and moderate rainfall, producing clusters that mature perfectly before being brought into the winery, where they will ferment in oak vats using indigenous yeasts. This detail is one of the reasons why this wine is so worthwhile, as despite its price, natural and artisanal processes are maintained, such as the subsequent clarification with egg white prior to bottling. Regarding the ageing process, Muga will spend over a year and a half in French and American oak barrels and will finally rest in the bottle before being released for sale.

Muga Crianza 2020 is a red wine that on the nose offers aromas reminiscent of forest fruits accompanied by spicy notes. On the palate, it presents with precise, well-integrated acidity and tannins that stand out for their smoothness. A red wine with a long finish, rounded and elegant.
2017

Muga Crianza 2017 is a robust red wine boasting an aroma of ripe red fruit, hints of cheesecake, and nuances of sour candies. On the palate, it is forthright, vivacious, and exceedingly smooth. This medium-bodied wine features a lively acidity, silky tannins, and a lingering mineral finish.

 

 
2015 Muga Crianza 2015 is a fleshy, complex and elegant red wine. In this vintage it is already rounded from the beginning. On the nose, the aromas of ripe red fruit stand out, with elegant smoky notes of the aging. On the palate it is silky and pleasant, with a fresh and lingering finish.
2012 Full-bodied and exquisitely flavourful. Fruity with a prolonged finish.

Vivid cherry red hue with intense violet and ruby nuances. Clear and luminous.

Rich presence of fruit (both red and black) complemented by toasted hints.
2011 Tasty entry into the mouth. Predominant ripe fruit with memories of aging. Vanilla and cream. Fleshy, broad, balanced and structured. With excellent acidity and gentle tannins. Aftertaste is long and very persistent.

Intense cherry red, with purple hues and an abundant tear.

The nose is dominated by black and red fruit. Blackberry, currants and plum. Leather with fine floral notes, lightly toasted flavours and spices appear. Black pepper, cloves, cocoa, toast.
2009 This red wine shows a long, tasty and fleshy mid palate with dominant notes of ripe fruit on an intense background of notes provided during the ageing wrapped in creamy aromas of vanilla. A balanced and structured wine. Excellent acidity and very pleasant and integrated tannins. Long and very persistent finish.

Dark and intense cherry colour with ruby red edges and purple reflections. Clean and very bright. It has a medium robe and abundant tears.

High intensity nasal aromas, dominated by intense notes of ripe red and black fruit that gives way to aromatic floral notes and some emerging toasted aromas. When it opens up, the wine gains in complexity and the notes of fruit get mixed with nice spicy touches, more expressive toasted notes, balsamic touches and hints of leather, coffee and cacao.
2008 Very intense and embracing attack, which leads to a long, tasty and meaty mid palate, with lots of ripe fruit on an intense background provided by the ageing wrapped in creamy vanilla. A very balanced and well-bodied wine with a perfect structure. Excellent acidity and very nice and perfectly integrated tannins. Very long and very persistent finish with a pleasant aftertaste.

Intense red cherry colour with red edges and purple reflections. Very clean and bright. Medium robe and abundant dense tear.

Its intense notes of very expressive red and black fruit give way to aromatic flowers and some initial toasted aromas. When it opens up, the wine becomes more complex an the notes of fruit get mixed with some spicy aromas, more expressive toasted hints, balsamic notes and notes of leather, coffee and cocoa.  A very nice and very balanced set.
2007 Very strong and voluminous attack and a tasty, nice, meaty and fresh mid palate. The notes of fruit dominate on the wooden aromas since the notes of juicy and ripe black fruit are more powerful. Noble and well integrated tannins are also felt and although they are not unpleasant they still need to round out a little more. Long and persistent finish which leaves fruity and spicy sensations. Very fine, elegant and balanced wine from La Rioja.

Elegant and intense aromas. The toasted and roasted notes gain power on first nosing, over the aromas of ripe red and black fruit. When it opens up, the aromas are balanced and some spicy, liquorice, leather, mocha and chocolate notes are also felt along with subtle balsamic and mineral touches.
2006 Balanced on the palate. A deep, intense, flavoursome wine. The fruit, previously pure finesse, now becomes potent. An elegant, persistent finish.
