About Morasinsi Sferra Cavallo
Legend has it that the name Sferracavallo originates from ancient paths so rugged that horses would lose their shoes when stumbling over the stones of the terrain. Whether this is myth or memory remains unknown, but what is certain is that this wine seems to gallop with that same untamed, earthy, and free spirit.
Morasinsi Sferra Cavallo is an aglianico unbridled, nurtured amidst the warm breezes of the Alta Murgia, in Puglia (Italy) and a clay-limestone soil that retains the essentials and allows the vine to express its character without compromise.
Behind this wine are Sveva Sernia and Peter Geier, founders of Morasinsi, a youthful venture born from a love for nature and the biodiversity of this wild corner of Puglia. They practice regenerative agriculture, working with the rhythms of the land and cultivating their vineyards in synergy with insects, wild plants, and microorganisms that comprise a vibrant and sustainable ecosystem.
The grapes are harvested by hand, with an almost ritualistic care, and transported by cart to the winery, as in days of yore. There, spontaneous fermentation begins without added yeasts, following the natural pulse of the wine.
In concrete tanks, terracotta amphorae, and oak barrels, this aglianico is refined for 20 months. The lees are stirred with batonnage, adding body, texture, and depth. Without clarification or filtration, the wine is bottled as it is: raw, honest, and full of life.
Morasinsi Sferra Cavallo is a wine that speaks with its own voice. Direct, expressive, and deeply connected to the landscape from which it is born.
