About Montecillo Edición Limitada

Scarcity, history, authenticity… It's not merely about possessing something rare. It's about owning a piece of land, capturing a spark of passion, a dose of creative madness. That is a Limited Edition: the most unadulterated expression of the unrepeatable.

In the case of Montecillo, the story begins in 1870, when Celestino Navajas established the winery in Fuenmayor, the heart of Rioja Alta. Since then, over 150 harvests have passed uninterrupted. A living legacy that continues to breathe authenticity, elegance, and time.

This is Montecillo Edición Limitada, pure elegance and audacity. Its tempranillo and mazuelo vineyards are dry-farmed and bush-pruned, as in the past, when hands were the only technology available. The tempranillo vines average 30 years old; the mazuelo vines, over half a century. The harvest is conducted manually. A 15-day difference between the two varietals sets the rhythm of the calendar. Each grape is vinified separately, fermenting in small steel tanks with constant pump-overs. Then comes the malolactic fermentation, in old underground cement tanks.

The aging process is almost a ritual: 20 months in oak barrels—85% American and 15% French—with 60% new wood. Afterwards, a final blend and another 6 months of rest in the barrel, before the wine is "tamed" in the bottle for 2 years.
No rush. No artifices. Just time doing its work.

Montecillo Edición Limitada is a modern reinterpretation of a legacy spanning over a century and a half. A wine of intense fruit expression, opulent texture, and a balance that surprises and captivates.
