About Mathilde Chapoutier Rías Baixas

There are many families with a winemaking tradition, but few whose surnames have achieved global acclaim with wines that have been awarded up to 100 Parker points on more than 40 occasions. Chapoutier, a prestigious house from the Rhône, holds this record. Thus, it's no surprise that with each generation, this family surpasses itself. In the case of Mathilde, daughter of Michel Chapoutier and the 8th generation, she not only continues the legacy by assuming the commercial management of the winery but has also launched her own venture, Mathilde Chapoutier Selection, introducing a range of fresh, versatile, and approachable wines sourced from the terroirs that have captivated her throughout her travels.

An example of her work is found in Mathilde Chapoutier Rías Baixas, a white wine integrated within the Spanish appellation DO. Rías Baixas in Galicia, made from a unique plot of old albariño vines planted on granitic soil. Vines over 50 years old are trained on pergolas to protect them from humidity and to ensure better exposure to the sun. The harvest is conducted manually at the optimal point of ripeness and, once at the winery, fermentation takes place with 85% in stainless steel and the remaining 15% in new French oak barrels (500 liters). Weekly batonnage is performed, and the wine remains on its lees in barrels for a minimum of three months.

Considering that the secret to the success of the Chapoutier lies in the perseverance to reflect the finest terroirs and in maintaining an optimistic attitude towards challenges, this intrepid winemaker presents her most personal way of interpreting the wine world. Mathilde Chapoutier Rías Baixas is a fruity, versatile, and easy-drinking wine to savor life at any moment.
