About Massolino Langhe Nebbiolo
The nebbiolo variety stands peerless among the red grape types of Northern Italy. To savor its inherent characteristics, it is not necessary for it to be cultivated specifically within the DOCG Barolo or Barbaresco. Wines from other neighboring appellations like DOC Langhe Nebbiolo can achieve outstanding vintages. These are regions that, despite not boasting the prime altitude and aspect, are truly worthy of recognition. The Massolino family is well aware of this, and since establishing their estate in the town of Serralunga d'Alba, Piedmont (Italy), generation after generation has adeptly captured the quintessential expression of the terroir in each of their wines.
In the case of Massolino Langhe Nebbiolo, this wine originates from 1.8 hectares of nebbiolo vineyards planted in predominantly calcareous soils, at an elevation ranging from 320 to 360 meters above sea level. They employ sustainable farming practices, limit the yields to 65 hl/ha, and harvest by hand at the optimal point of ripeness. Once in the cellar, they adhere to the traditional process of fermenting and macerating over a medium-term period (between 8 and 10 days). Subsequently, the wine is aged for a minimum of 12 months in oak barrels.
Viewed as a younger sibling to Barolo, this Massolino Langhe Nebbiolo is an excellent everyday wine. It is a red that one can truly enjoy for its enthralling harmony, both in its youthful state and as it matures in the bottle.
2019 |
