About M. Chapoutier La Bernardine Rouge
M. Chapoutier La Bernardine Rouge is a red wine with 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah and Mourvèdre. It belongs to the AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape and is produced by Maison Chapoutier.
Maison Chapoutier is an independent family winery founded in 1808. It cultivates biodynamically and owns vineyards in some of the best regions of southern France: in Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Its wines have been awarded with 100 Parker points several times.
The vineyard for M. Chapoutier La Bernardine Rouge is terraced and its floors have large boulders on the surface coming from the old river bed of the Rhone. The harvest is performed manually, which allows them to make a selection of the best bunches while still in the field.
M. Chapoutier La Bernardine Rouge is vinified in the traditional way in concrete tanks at a temperature not exceeding 32 ºC. A maceration is then performed with the skins. Altogether, this takes from 15 days to 3 weeks. Lastly, the wine is aged in vats or large barrels for about 12-15 months.
M. Chapoutier La Bernardine Rouge is a good example of what the Grenache from the Rhone can offer us, and how it can be perfectly complemented with more reductive varieties that give the wine more potential for ageing.

2015 | M. Chapoutier The Bernardine Rouge 2015 is a complex and subtle wine, where black currant and plum are the protagonists but where you can also encounter touches of coffee, vanilla and cherries. On the palate it is spicy with hints of liqueur and black fruit. It is elegant, balanced and rounded. |
