About Luis Cañas Gran Reserva

Luis Cañas Gran Reserva is a red wine produced by Luis Cañas, in the D.O Rioja.

The winery Luis Cañas is a family run business located in Villabuena (La Rioja Alavesa). The family has been producing wines since the 20th century.

Luis Cañas Gran Reserva is produced from the variety Tempranillo (95%) and Graciano (5%).

The grapes originate from old vines, aged between 50-60 years old, low yielding vines.

The harvest is performed using small 15kg capacity boxes, once at the winery the grapes undergo a double selection process: bunches and grapes.

For production, the fermentation process is completed in wooden vats, the malolactic fermentation is achieved through new French (70%) and American (30%) oak barrels.

Luis Cañas Gran Reserva is aged in the same barrels for 24 months. Finally, Luis Cañas Gran Reserva is left to refine in the bottle for a further additional 36 months in bottle.

Luis Cañas Gran Reserva 2016 is a red wine that, on the nose, delivers a bouquet where macerated fruits, dairy nuances, confectionery hints, and strokes of fine wood emerge. On the palate, the ripe fruit is reaffirmed, complemented by smooth tannins and a delightful acidity. This is a broad, profound, and exceptionally embracing red wine, crafted exclusively in the most outstanding vintages.
2008 Very balanced, round and enjoyable. Mid-palate is unctuous and fruity. Good acidity. The finish is very fresh with no hint of astringency.

Ruby red with garnet reflections. Clean, bright and expressive.

Large aromatic intensity, ripe red fruit which is in good harmony with the wood brought forth from the ageing process. Smoked, coffee and tobacco reminiscences.
2007 This wine's palate is well-rounded, balanced and warm. Touches of fruits in liqueur and notes of jammy citrus fruits (orange).

Pretty and intense ruby red colour with terracotta rims. Clean and bright with pretty tears shown on the glass.

Elegant and complex with aromas of undergrowth, thyme and rosemary. Notes of tobacco and leather.
2005 Rounded, balanced and warm on the palate. Touches of alcohol-soaked fruit and jammy citrus notes (orange).
