About Justinos Sercial 10 Years

Justinos Sercial 10 Years is a Sercial variety fortified wine made by Justino’s Madeira in the DOP Madeira.

Originally set up as Vinhos Justino Henriques, Filhos, Lda in 1870 in Madeira, in 1953 it became Justino’s Madeira and one of the oldest wine producers and exporters of the Portuguese island. It is currently part of one of the largest French wine and spirit production and distribution groups: C.O.F.E.E.P, also known as La Martiniquaise, and also has the largest collection of aged Madeira wines.

Justinos Sercial 10 Years comes from vines planted in volcanic soil with basalt, traces, tuff, slag and agglomerates. Located on small terraces, they are trained using the Latada and Espalier systems. Because of the landscape, machinery cannot operate on the land and all the work in the vineyard is carried out manually.

When the Justinos Sercial 10 Years grape reaches the winery, it is completely destemmed and pressed. The resulting must ferments in stainless steel tanks with controlled temperatures and reassembly times. Fermentation is stopped after 8 days by adding 96% grape spirit. Finally, it is left to age through the traditional Canteiro system in different sized French and American oak barrels for 10 years.
