Jean-Marie Fourrier Echezeaux Grand Cru

Tasting notes Jean-Marie Fourrier Echezeaux Grand Cru 2023
Red wine Aged in wood. 20 meses en barrica.
Jean-Marie Fourrier Echezeaux Grand Cru 2023 is a red wine that unfolds like an elegant whisper: notes of ripe berries, blooming peonies, candied orange peel, and a delicate echo of smoke and oriental spices. On the palate, it flows with the harmony of a well-orchestrated symphony: enveloping, precise, with silky tannins and a chalky undertone that elevates it. An ideal wine for a special dinner in good company, or simply to crown an evening of celebration with those who appreciate the exceptional.

About Jean-Marie Fourrier Echezeaux Grand Cru
Thanks to the diversity of its climates and soils, France, the cradle of world wine, offers a wide range of possibilities. However, as part of this vast and unfathomable collection, there is a small and very visible minority at the upper end of the market; we’re talking about the Grand Cru. This denomination is the pinnacle of excellence when it comes to classifying wines. Echezeaux Grand Cru is one of the most sought-after vineyards in Vosne-Romanee (Burgundy). Developed by the Cistercian monks, who gradually absorbed neighbouring plots, it is now one of the largest vineyards spreading over 37 hectares. That means this area has a huge range of soils and very different wines from different wineries carrying the same Echezeaux label, like Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Domaine Dujac, Domaine Meo-Camuzet and, of course, Domaine Fourrier.
One of these wines is Jean-Marie Fourrier Echezeaux Grand Cru, a red wine made by Jean-Marie Fourrier, a prestigious winemaker with an infectious enthusiasm for the art of winemaking and incredible knowledge and experience. The fruit of this coveted Grand Cru, this is a single-variety Pinot Noir that is grown with the minimum possible intervention to allow the vines, the terroir and the vintage to express themselves in the best possible way. The vinification of each vineyard is carried out separately and fermentation avoids the use of sulphur dioxide, preferring instead to use temperature, CO2 and contact with the lees. The wine then ages for 20 months in oak barrels, less then 20% of which are new. As Fournier himself says, “Oak is for the wine to breathe slowly, not for taste”, because his aim is to preserve the purity of the fruit. Finally, it is bottled directly from the barrel, without clarifying or filtering.
With excellent balance, charming elegance and wonderful complexity, Jean-Marie Fourrier Echezeaux Grand Cru shows the character of the AOC Echézeaux Grand Cru/Côte-d'Or and the personality of Jean-Marie Fourrier. All of this work results in a pure expression of an exclusive terroir.

2019 | Jean-Marie Fourrier Echezeaux Grand Cru 2019 is a concentrated red wine with intense aromas of ripe red and black fruits. On the palate it is unctuous, elegant and exuberant. A medium to full-bodied wine with precise acidity, silky tannins and a long, lingering finish. |
