About Jean-Claude Boisset Hautes-Côtes de Beaune
The French Revolution, which began at the end of the 17th century, legislated the equality, liberty and fraternity of mankind. So, when the First French Republic was established with a Jacobin majority, they wanted to destroy the Catholic Church, which had an undisputed social and cultural dominance. This marks the beginning of what is known as the Terror period. One of the many persecuted convents was that of the Ursuline nuns in the area of Nuits Saint-Georges (Burgundy). A construction of sacred architecture, built around the trajectory of the sun and the cycles of the moon and stars. A place steeped in grandeur and humility which, since 1961, has been the home of Jean-Claude Boisset, a wine company that shuns tradition and stands out mainly for its elegance.
In fact, Jean-Claude Boisset himself, the son of schoolteachers who began his winemaking career at a very young age, firmly believes in the celestial power of the place. His Jean-Claude Boisset Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, a red wine produced in the village of Corgoloin, in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune region, comes from old Pinot Noir vineyards that are more than 50 years and old planted on clay soils at 350-500 metres above sea level. They are cultivated using respectful agriculture and the grapes are harvested by hand in small crates. In the winery, after sorting and destemming, the grapes are taken to stainless steel tanks to undergo a 3-week maceration, breaking the cap frequently. No external oenological products are used in order to maintain the character of the terroir. The wine is then aged for 12 months in oak barrels, 20% of which are new, and finally bottled after refining with egg white.
Welcomed by the silence that reigns within the walled gardens of the convent, Jean-Claude Boisset Hautes-Côtes de Beaune is a wine that boasts originality, purity and elegance. A modern style Burgundy that touches heaven through earthly work.
2019 |
Jean-Claude Boisset Hautes-Côtes de Beaune 2019 is a smooth red wine with aromas of cassis, vanilla notes and hints of spice. On the palate it is pure, flavoursome and elegant. A wine with a fantastic structure, noticeable acidity and fine tannins. It has an aging potential of 10 years. |
