About Hacienda López de Haro Classica Gran Reserva Tinto

Some things only happen once in a lifetime. And some trains never return. Knowing how to spot them and take advantage of them is not an easy thing to do. It takes practice. López de Haro winery knows how to do this very well. And that is why they are launching Hacienda López de Haro Classica Gran Reserva Tinto.

Hacienda López de Haro Classica Gran Reserva Tinto is a wine that belongs to the Classica collection, a range where the wines brought to the market are only a sample of the best vintages that this winery – in the D.O. Ca. La Rioja – has been able to preserve with careful attention. The wines from this house are generally wonderful. This is due to its privileged location in San Vicente de la Sonsierra (in La Rioja Alta), just below the Cantabria and Toloño mountain ranges, where an ideal microclimate is created for the vineyards thanks to the influence of the Ebro River (which provides the humidity). However, from time to time, this excellence is surpassed by a more special vintage, something unusual that should not be missed. And this is the origin of the Classica collection.

Hacienda López de Haro Classica Gran Reserva Tinto is a coupage of tempranillo and graciano grown in the vineyards of La Sonsierra and Alto Najerilla on clay-limestone soils, very well drained, perfect for tempranillo. Love of the land and good work will be fundamental; however, the 42 months that Hacienda López de Haro Classica Gran Reserva Tinto will spend in French oak barrels (half of them new) will also be important. There are things that happen only once in a lifetime, and you have to know how to spot them and take advantage of them. Hacienda López de Haro Classica Gran Reserva Tinto is one of them. It's up to you to take it or leave it.

2001

Hacienda López de Haro Classica Gran Reserva Tinto 2001 is a ripe, intense red wine, with brick-red tones and tinges of cherry. The nose is complex and mineral, with notes of ripe fruit at the beginning that make way for spicy and herbal hints. Tobacco, vanilla and nuts (totally normal after barrel aging) also stand out. The palate is fine and subtle, with great acidity. Tannic and wild. Very elegant.
