Tasting notes Graham's Fine Tawny Port

Oporto (75 cl.).

Graham's Fine Tawny Port is an amber-coloured fortified wine that offers a good balance between the fruity notes of a young port wine and nuts like walnuts, which come from the aging process. On the palate it is persistent and fruity with caramel nuances but is drier and softer than a Ruby Port.

About Graham's Fine Tawny Port

Graham’s Fine Tawny Port is a fortified port wine dominated by the Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Tinta Amarela and Touriga Franca varieties that are typical of the region and made by Graham’s Port, in the Douro Valley, Portugal.

W. & J. Graham’s was founded by brothers William and John Graham, and started out in the textile industry. In 1820 they accepted 27 barrels of port as payment for a debt. This prompted them to start producing high-quality port wines. This is how Graham’s Port was born. In 1970 the Symington family acquired Graham’s. The winery’s first harvest under the Symington family, in that same year, was extraordinary. It resulted in the 1970 Vintage Port, which is considered one of the century’s best wines.

The grapes used to make Graham's Fine Tawny Port mainly come from five Quintas that are considered among the best in the Douro Valley: Quinta dos Malvedos, Quinta do Tua, Quinta das Lages (in the Torto river valley), Quinta da Vila Velha and Quinta do Vale de Malhadas. These Quintas benefit from a warm and dry microclimate with plots composed of shale soils that are perfect for the vines to develop and mature.

Graham’s Fine Tawny Port spends an average of three years in oak vats allowing it to come into contact with the oxygen that subtly penetrates the wood. It is a softer and more developed wine than a Ruby Port. A versatile wine that is perfect for any occasion.
