About Giovanni Rosso Etna Rosso
It is not the first time that a vintner, who has made an indelible mark on a specific wine-producing region, embarks on a venture armed with all their expertise to try their luck in another area. This is the case with Giovanni Rosso, a viticulturist who has significantly contributed to the success and renown of Nebbiolo in Serralunga d'Alba, Piedmont (Italy). In 2016, he embarked on a new venture at the opposite end of the country, specifically in Etna, Sicily. To this end, he acquired an old vineyard on the northern slopes of Mount Etna and began vinifying small batches of indigenous varietals, yielding elegant wines with a distinctive personality.
As a result of this initiative, he presents us with Giovanni Rosso Etna Rosso, a wine originating from vineyards of nerello mascalese planted in volcanic soil at significant altitudes. Old vines that are cultivated according to sustainable farming practices and are hand-harvested at the optimal point of ripeness. Once at the winery, a meticulous selection of the finest grapes is made; they are then carefully destemmed and crushed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks over 12 days with daily pump-overs. Subsequently, the wine matures in foudres for 15 months before bottling.
Taking into account that volcanic soils are nothing like those of Piedmont, Giovanni Rosso proves that with his expertise, he can conquer any challenge. Giovanni Rosso Etna Rosso is a red wine that embodies all the elegance and minerality that characterize the wines of the DOC Etna Rosso, under the label of one of the greats.
2019 | Giovanni Rosso Etna Rosso 2019 is a supple red wine imbued with profound aromas of fresh red fruit, complemented by hints of violet, herbaceous undertones, and a touch of spice. On the palate, it is succulent, crisp, and effervescent. A wine characterized by its vigorous acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a dry, invigorating finish. |
