About Ferrer Bobet Selecció Especial Vinyes Velles

Ferrer Bobet Selecció Especial Vinyes Velles is a red wine made in D.O. Priorat by Bodega Ferrer Bobet.
Unlike previous vintages, Ferrer Bobet Selecció Especial Vinyes Velles was made from a coupage of Cariñena and Gernache, however this vintage is a single variety Cariñena.
The grapes are grown on century-old vines on steep slopes, called "costers" in Priorat.
The soil is typical for this denomination, very sought after. Slate soil, called "licorella", that contributes to the minerality and special character of the wine.
The vines are located in one of the highest and freshest areas in the denomination which guarantees the perfect ripening of the grapes and allows the preservation of aromas and acidity.
Ferrer Bobet practices completely respectful organic farming. They do not use any type of insecticide or fungicide or herbicide.
The harvest is done by hand, and the grapes are transported to the winery in small 10kg crates.
The grapes pass through a selection table twice where there is a strict selection from grape to grape.
The fermentation takes place is small vats, mainly oak, where the vinification of each plot is done separately.
Ferrer Bobet Selecció Especial Vinyes Velles undergoes an aging for 18 months in fine grain French oak barrels and mediumly toasted.
It is bottled without clarification or filtration and rests in the bottle for a year before being released onto the market.

2010 In the mouth, it is a powerful, well-balanced, very tasty and elegant wine. Suggestive and creamy fruits. All this is perfectly combined in harmony, with a great delicacy. Extremely long mid-palate. Bulky and medium-bodied wine with a velvety texture and an excellent acidity.

Very intense and bright cherry red colour with purple reflections. Very well-covered wine with high-robe. Dense slow-falling tear.

Intense and very expressive wine. Ripe black fruit which explodes together with aromatic floral notes (violets). Elegant notes of wood, with an extremely wide range of creamy spiced hints with an attractive sweet touch, with chocolates, vanilla, tobacco, liquorice and fresh balsamic aromas and touches of herbs from the hills.
2009 Excellent wine: powerful, balanced, tasty and elegant. From the very first sip, this wine coats the palate with creamy notes of appealing fruits and a nice minerality. All of them are released in a perfect harmony and with a great elegance. Very long, full-bodied and bulky mid palate with a velvety texture and an excellent acidity. Perfectly integrated and polished tannins. Its highly wide finish shows a marked freshness and a persistence which does not allow forgetting this wine. It invites to go for a second glass.  A round wine that inspires and seduces us, inviting us to enjoy it slowly.  A jewel from Priorat.

It has a very intense and very bright cherry colour with purplish reflections. Very well covered wine with dense and elegant slow-falling tears.

Elegant, charming and very expressive aromas. On an intense mineral background with some outstanding hints of the slate floors, some notes of very ripe black fruit are displayed along with fragrant floral notes (violets). Its elegant notes of wood are also felt along with a very wide range of creamy spices with an appealing sweet touch, with chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, liquorice, balsamic hints and fresh herbal aromas. Perfect aromatic harmony and a great balance that seduces us from the very beginning.
2008 One of the finest wines of Priorat. Round, very tasty and very suggestive wine, very balanced and with a good structure. Joyful. Very elegant. It is large and bulky at the attack and has a very tasty, velvety and expressive mid palate. It is very fruity, with creamy notes of spices and subtle mineral touches. Very good acidity that freshens it and very polished tannins. Its finish is very long and very persistent, and leaves a pleasant aftertaste. A wine that will delight us. Very enjoyable.

It is an explosion of flavours that inmediately reminds of Priorat.
