About Du Grappin Vezélay Blanc

When we think of Burgundy, we often envision illustrious names, prestigious labels, and unattainable prices. Yet, there exists another Burgundy: quieter, more genuine, and often more exhilarating.

In this alternative Burgundy is where Andrew and Emma Nielsen, founders of Le Grappin, have found their niche. From their winery in Hautes Côtes de Beaune, they reclaim forgotten plots and transform them into vibrant and approachable wines, such as this Du Grappin Vézelay Blanc.

This Chardonnay hails from the Merlutte vineyard, where vines over 35 years old thrive in Kimmeridgian soils—a blend rich in grey marl and limestone with marine fossils—that impart the wine with pronounced minerality and a natural salinity. Coupled with the vineyard's sunny orientation and moderate altitude, we encounter a perfect harmony of fruit and freshness. The vines are cultivated using organic practices, tended by vintners with whom Le Grappin has maintained relationships for over a decade.

In the winery, adhering to a minimal intervention philosophy, one-third ferments in a large oak foudre and the remaining two-thirds are aged in a concrete egg. Subsequently, Du Grappin Vézelay Blanc undergoes 12 months of ageing on full lees (without bâtonnage) and is bottled with minimal filtration, aiming to preserve the wine's purity and vitality.

The result is Du Grappin Vézelay Blanc, a Chardonnay brimming with expression. For sometimes, the most authentic does not dazzle with golden labels, but with stories such as this.
