About Don Pedro de Soutomaior
Don Pedro de Soutomaior is an Albariño crafted by Adegas Galegas within the esteemed D.O. Rías Baixas, specifically in the subzones of O Condado and O Rosal, to the south of Pontevedra, Spain.
In August 2020, London hosted the 17th edition of the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA), featuring a participation of 16,500 wines from across the globe. Amongst these contenders was Don Pedro de Soutomaior, which, along with other wines from the D.O. Rías Baixas, was honoured with an accolade. A few months later, in November of the same year, Don Pedro de Soutomaior once again garnered recognition, this time receiving the gold medal from CINVE in the still wine category.
Ultimately, beyond Don Pedro de Soutomaior, these awards are a testament to the vitality of Rías Baixas, the most dynamic denomination of Galicia. The foundation of its success lies in the granitic soil and maritime climate, characterized by plentiful rainfall, which necessitates the use of trellis systems in the vineyard. These allow the vines to grow horizontally at height and remain suspended, thus ensuring their maturation and excellent health due to the clusters being well-ventilated.
The outcome is epitomized in Don Pedro de Soutomaior, a wine that, despite its youth, displays an elegance, vivacity, and aromatic profile worthy of admiration.
