About Dominó Samarra

Dominó Samarra is a natural, organic and vegan, barrel-aged red wine made in the Vinho de Portugal Denomination. It is made by Dominó with the Touriga Nacional and Castelão local varieties.
 
Vitor Claro, a cook and viticulturist, decided to turn his whole focus to wine, which is what he was really passionate about. This happened when he met the legendary Portuguese winemaker Dirk Niepoort. This influence is clear to see in the style of fruity and elegant wines that he makes at the Dominó winery in Portalegre, in the Alentejo. These wines are a truly authentic country blend.
 
Domino Samarra comes from old vines planted in shale soil at an altitude of 750m. This vineyard lies in a clearing in the middle of a forest and is cultivated using organic agriculture, avoiding chemicals that could harm the natural balance of the terroir and the vine.
 
In the winery, the Dominó Samarra grapes are left to vinify with minimal intervention. As part of this, they ferment spontaneously with native yeasts. Then the wine is placed in used oak barrels. It is finally bottled without adding sulphur.
 
The Domino Samarra wine is a combination of the traditional way of doing things and the quest for a contemporary style. As a result, this is a light, cheerful and very modern red wine.
 
2018 Domino Samarra 2018 is a smooth red wine with aromas of fresh red fruit, floral notes and interesting hints of chocolate. On the palate it is light, fresh and honest. A flavoursome wine with sweet fruit and balsamic touches.
