Dominio de Anza Finca El Rapolao is a red wine produced by the winery Dominio de Anza in Valtuille de Abajo, D.O. Bierzo.
Dominio de Anza is the project of Diego Magaña in El Bierzo. Diego is a young Navarrese brought up in a family with a long winemaking tradition, Bodegas Viña Magaña. He has also gained experience in Bordeaux, Burgundy, Argentina and Chile.
In a trade promotion trip he made to the United States, he became friends with Raúl Pérez, who convinced him to produce wine in El Bierzo and let him use his own facilities. Surrounded by the valley, the sunset and the vineyards, in 2014 he decided to create his first two wines in this region.
Dominio de Anza Finca El Rapolao is a wine made from Mencía, Alicante Bouschet and Sousón, from a vineyard located in Valtuille de Abajo, where Raúl Pérez also makes his wine, El Rapolao. This plot is situated on a steep hillside facing north, with very old vines planted on red clay soils.
Once the grapes are harvested, they ferment with their stems in open 400-litre barrels, with local yeasts and a controlled temperature, with a maximum vatting of 3 weeks. This wine is aged for 12 months in 225-litre French oak barrels.
Dominio de Anza Finca El Rapolao is an expressive wine, with a pleasant texture and freshness. The fruit stands out above the spiced notes of the ageing process, but of course marking the character of the terroir.
