About Domaine Michel Noëllat Bourgogne Pinot Noir
We live in a fast-moving, fluid world that makes products obsolete before consumers are even aware of them. What's more, this fluidity is not only fleeting but also global, making it increasingly difficult to find an original product with its own identity. In the face of this volatility, many winemaking families are defending their cultural heritage as much as they can to differentiate themselves from the competition and to keep their sense of belonging alive. This is true for Domaine Michel Noëllat, an estate that was founded in the 19th century by Félix Noëllat in Vosne-Romanée, in Burgundy (France) and then, years later, Michel Noëllat set up his own estate with some of the family vines. Now run by the sixth generation in Sébastien and Sophie, they are keeping the family heritage alive with the SCEA Domaine Michel Noëllat et fils.
True to its style, Domaine Michel Noëllat Bourgogne Pinot Noir is a single-variety Pinot Noir from a 1.44 hectare vineyard. 40-year-old vines planted in clay-limestone soils cultivated using respectful agriculture to maintain the natural balance of the terroir. Following a manual harvest, the grapes are cold macerated in the winery for 3 to 5 days prior to fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 18 days. Finally, the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels before being bottled.
The result needs no explanation. An authentic red wine from the AOC Bourgogne but with the Noëllat family's own style. So if you have the opportunity to get your hands on a Domaine Michel Noëllat Bourgogne Pinot Noir, don’t waste any time, and you will see how the legacy lives on.
2017 |
Domaine Michel Noëllat Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2017 is a smooth red wine with a significant fruit load of forest fruits on the nose accompanied by earthy notes and smoky hints. On the palate it is energetic, fresh and mineral. A wine with a pleasant mid-palate with significant acidic notes and a long and fruity finish. |
