About Domaine du Mortier Brain de Folie Rouge

Defying convention can be akin to swimming against the current, yet it is also the pathway to genuine innovation and creativity. In a world where everyone seems to adhere to the same set of rules, occasionally, being "mad" is the way to stand out and effectuate meaningful change. Creative madness is a potent force capable of altering the world, and this is exemplified by the Boisard brothers in each of their natural concoctions. Committed to biodiversity and biodynamic practices, their entire endeavor is focused on capturing the exquisite expression of their terroir in the Loire region of France.

Under the moniker Domaine du Mortier Brain de Folie Rouge (madman's brain), this wine pays tribute to the creative insanity that envelops each of their wines. Crafted from the grolleau and cabernet franc varieties harvested from two gravel plots located in the village of Brain sur Allone (in Bourgueil), one spanning 0.4 hectares with vines averaging 12 years and another of 0.8 hectares with 60-year-old vines. Organic farming is practiced with biodynamic treatments and a strict avoidance of herbicides, insecticides, and pesticides. The grapes are hand-picked into crates and promptly transported to the winery. Whole bunches are then transferred to 50-hectolitre concrete vats for carbonic maceration lasting around 14 days. Subsequently, the wine is left to mature in tanks for about 4 months before being bottled with a minimal addition of sulphur.
