About Domaine de Villeneuve Châteneauf du Pape Les Vieilles Vignes
Domaine de Villeneuve Châteneauf du Pape Les Vieilles Vignes is a biodynamic, cement-aged red wine made by Domaine de Villeneuve using the Garnacha TInta, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Clairette and Cinsault varieties in the AOC Châteauneuf-du-pape French denomination in the Rhône.
Domaine de Villeneuve, a winery located north of the Châteneauf du Pape denomination in the Rhone Valley, was acquired by the Wallut family in 1993. An 8.5 hectare property with a great diversity of top quality soils that, worked according to biodynamic principles, provides complex and very elegant micro-plot wines.
Domaine de Villeneuve Châteneauf du Pape Les Vieilles Vignes comes from vineyards ranging from 40 years old to over a hundred years old planted on different types of soils. Terroirs with boulders, clay soils and sandy soils. The vineyards have been certified organic and biodynamic since 1998 by Ecocert and Biodyvin and the yields are very limited. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested manually and carefully.
In the winery, the grapes selected to make Domaine de Villeneuve Châteneauf du Pape Les Vieilles Vignes are crushed in a vertical press and spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts begins. Aging then lasts for 18 to 24 months in 51 hl cement vats to preserve the freshness and fruitiness of the berries as much as possible.
Domaine de Villeneuve Châteneauf du Pape Les Vieilles Vignes is a micro-plot wine that maintains all the sophistication and elegance of the fruit. A juicy, bright and vibrant red made from old vines and using biodynamic methods.
2016 | Domaine de Villeneuve Châteneauf du Pape Les Vieilles Vignes 2016 is a richly concentrated red wine, exuding aromas of ripe red fruit, nuanced spice, hints of damp stone, and subtle citrus undertones. On the palate, it is a sophisticated medium-bodied red with a sumptuous texture and a lively acidity. The finish is extensive and succulent. |
